HARRISON, NJ (NEWS 1130) – The New York Red Bulls were sent down to 10 men in just the 11th minute, but Vancouver keeper David Ousted still had to stop Bradley Wright-Phillips on two penalty kicks to lead the Whitecaps to a 2-1 victory.

In the fifth minute, Steven Beitashour received a foul in the box to give the Red Bulls a chance to open the scoring. Ousted dove to his right and got his palm on the attempt from Wright-Phillips to keep the score at 0-0.

Sacha Kljestan was sent off in the 11th minute after a light kick on Whitecaps’ defender Kendall Waston. Vancouver quickly took advantage, as Kekuta Manneh volleyed home a pass from Beitashour in the 15th minute to make it 1-0 with his third goal of the season.

Just under 20 minutes into the second half, the Whitecaps conceded another penalty. This time, Wright-Phillips fired in the centre of the net, and Ousted got a piece of the ball as he fell to the ground.

Teenager Kianz Froese came into the game for Vancouver in the 70th minute, and it took him little time to make an impact. Froese buried the 2-0 marker in the 77th minute, giving him his first career MLS goal.

The Froese tally turned out to be a big one, as Anatole Bertrand Abang got New York on the board in the 82nd minute, but the ‘Caps held on for the win, their second in a row.

Waston received a yellow card in stoppage time, which will cost him a one-match suspension.

The win was Vancouver’s fifth on the road this season. That sets a new franchise record in Major League Soccer play.

Vancouver will continue its road trip with a visit to the New England Revolution next Saturday.
