MINNEAPOLIS (NEWS 1130) – Vancouver will leave Minnesota with a point, but the Whitecaps will likely not be happy with the end result. The Caps entered halftime with a 2-0 lead, but had to settle for a 2-2 draw after allowing two goals early in the second frame.

The draw pushed Vancouver’s record to 6-6-3 and gives the Caps 21-points for the season.

The Whitecaps got off to a great start, opening the scoring in the 16th minute. Cristian Techera converted on a penalty kick. It tied him for the team lead in goals with five. It is just two goals short of his career high in the MLS.

Vancouver would double its lead in stoppage time in the opening half. Tony Tchani would head in a Techera cross for his first goal in a Whitecaps uniform.

Sloppy defence to open the second half cost the Caps. In the 50th minute defender Francisco Calvo cut the lead in half. Minnesota would find the equalizer in the 63rd minute. Vancouver was caught off guard by Minnesota using a series short passes off of a corner kick. Defender Jerome Thiesson was allowed to dribble the ball to the middle of the box before firing a shot past a diving David Ousted.

Alphonso Davies was in the starting lineup for the Caps despite dealing with a fractured left hand.

Vancouver returns to action next Saturday, celebrating Canada Day with a game in Chicago against the Fire. Kick off is set for 4 p.m.
