VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The Seattle Sounders got two first half goals from Chad Barrett as they cruised to a 2-0 victory over the Vancouver Whitecaps at BC Place. The ‘Caps are now 1-1-1 in their three Cascadia Cup matches this season.

Barrett opened the scoring in just the fifth minute with his first goal of the season. Clint Dempsey sent a nice ball in behind the Whitecaps defenders and Barrett was able to get it past David Ousted into the ride side of the net.

It was almost a carbon copy that doubled Seattle’s lead in the 28th minute. This time Marco Pappa provided the ball in, and Barrett hit it with his first touch to once again sneak it past Ousted into the right side.

Vancouver registered five shots on target in the defeat, but all five were stopped by Stefan Frei. Ousted made two saves in the defeat.

The Whitecaps (6W-4L-2D) remain in second place in the Western Conference standings, however, Seattle (6W-3L-1D) is now just one point back with two games in hand.

Vancouver will be back in action on Wednesday night, visiting FC Edmonton in the second leg of their Canadian Championship semifinal. The teams tied 1-1 at BC Place in the first leg.
