SAN JOSE, CA (NEWS 1130) – Cristian Techera tallied for Vancouver in the first half, but Chris Wondolowski responded for San Jose in the second half as the Whitecaps and Earthquakes tied 1-1.
Techera scored in the 39th minute as he finally capitalized on Vancouver’s first half pressure. Techera’s shot went off a San Jose defender to fool the keeper and find its way in for his seventh goal of the season.
San Jose pulled level in the 62nd minute thanks to a miscue from the Whitecaps’ keeper. David Ousted stopped a shot but then misplayed the rebound, which allowed Chris Wondolowski to pounce on the loose ball and fire it home.
Kekuta Manneh had a fantastic chance to win the game in stoppage time as he had a breakaway for half the field but he let the ball get too far in front and was unable to get a shot off.
The Whitecaps could have clinched a playoff spot with a victory but now will have to wait to do so. Vancouver (15W-4D-12L) is in second place in the Western Conference. It sits one point back of the Los Angeles Galaxy and two points ahead of FC Dallas.
