VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – The Vancouver Whitecaps won their third consecutive Major League Soccer game as they shutout Real Salt Lake 4-0 at BC Place. Octavio Rivero and Pa-Modou Kah scored in the first half, while Cristian Techera tallied twice in the second half.
The ‘Caps were coming off a 3-0 win in Seattle last weekend, and they played to a 1-1 draw with the Sounders in a CONCACAF Champions League game on Wednesday.
Vancouver opened the scoring early as Octavio Rivero scored from the penalty spot in the seventh minute. Rivero drew the PK on a set play. The Whitecaps doubled the lead about five minute before half-time, as defender Pa Modou Kah was the beneficiary of some fine work in the box from Kekuta Manneh. Kah’s goal was his third in the past week. He had one career MLS goal before scoring twice last weekend in Seattle.
Cristian Techera put the game out of reach in the second half. Techera finished off a nice pass from Jordan Harvey in the 50th minute, and then tallied again in the 68th, giving him four goals on the season.
The Whitecaps (13W-3D-8L) extended their lead over FC Dallas for first place in the Western Conference to four points. Dallas is off this weekend.
Vancouver will be without central defender Kendall Waston next week against Sporting Kansas City, as he drew a yellow card, which came with a one-game suspension.
The Whitecaps will also be in Canadian Championship action this week, as they’ll visit the Montreal Impact on Wednesday.
