SURREY (NEWS 1130) — Chaos broke out in Surrey’s Newton Athletic Park this afternoon.
Parents and children were running in panic after believing there was a man with a gun or shots fired — but it was a false alarm.
It all happened during a youth soccer tournament, with more than 500 kids in attendance.

Sgt. David MacDonald with Surrey RCMP says they were responding to reports of a person with some kind of weapon, but says no shots were ever fired.
“We had a report of someone brandishing possibly a firearm. We can’t make a determination as to whether it was a firearm or an Airsoft gun.”
Police have now taken a person into custody who was carrying a pellet gun.
Ejaz Sideiqi, who was coaching his son’s soccer game, says parents ran onto the field screaming, telling them to run.
“We didn’t know what exactly was going on, we just heard that there was someone with a gun, and they heard gunshots, so everybody starts running, they’re like, just get off the field,” he tells NEWS 1130. “The kids panicked a little bit but they are fine.”
Crowds gathered on 75th and 74th Streets after some callers told NEWS 1130 they were told to leave the area by the police.
