PORTLAND, OR (NEWS1130) – The Whitecaps got some help from the woodwork on the Timbers’ first half penalty kick, as Vancouver avoided a second consecutive loss with a 0-0 tie against Portland.
Vancouver will be pleased with the result, as possession was heavily in Portland’s favour, with 65 per cent.
The best scoring chance of the game came in the 30th minute. Pa Modou Kah had a ball deflect off his arm in the box, which gave the Timbers a penalty kick. Darlington Nagbe hit a good strike but the ball hit the post and stayed out to keep the game goalless.
David Ousted had to make one save in the Vancouver net to record his clean sheet. The ‘Caps registered two shots on target but they were both turned aside by Adam Larsen Kwarasey.
The Whitecaps have now accumulated four points through two Cascadia Cup matches this season. Vancouver is the back-to-back defending champion of the Cascadia Cup.
Vancouver will continue it’s MLS schedule at home to the Philadelphia Union next Saturday.
